As of the census
There were 2,998 households out of which 32.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.3% were married couples living together, 14.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.1% were non-families. 27.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.64 and the average family size was 3.25.
In the village the population was spread out with 24.7% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 31.8% from 25 to 44, 19.4% from 45 to 64, and 15.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 93.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.5 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $50,776, and the median income for a family was $59,375. Males had a median income of $37,321 versus $32,051 for females. The per capita income for the village was $21,638. About 4.9% of families and 6.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 6.1% of those under age 18 and 3.8% of those age 65 or over.

Hillside, Illinois Demographics
Hillside is divided between three congressional districts. The area north of Harrison Street, and most of the area northeast of Roosevelt Road and Haase Avenue, is in Illinois' 7th congressional district; the southern arm of the city, south of Roosevelt Road along Wolf Road, is in the 3rd district; the area in between (primarily Mount Carmel Cemetery) is in the 4th district.
